Rev. Dr. Calvin E. Cage Sr. has been inspiring the Meridian Hill Baptist Church community since joining our congregation. Considered to be the most distinguished figure in our Church, Rev. Dr.  Cage is committed to providing members of the congregation with religious guidance.

Rev. Dr. Calvin E. Cage, Sr. was born on February 4, 1959, in Indianola, Mississippi. At four years of age, his family moved to Chicago, Illinois where he remained until age 15.  At that time, his family moved to Sandusky, Ohio.  Rev, Dr.  Cage attended Central State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Welfare. He later matriculated at Howard University School of Divinity where he received a Master's Degree of Divinity. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Wesley Theological Seminary, American University.   Rev. Dr.  Cage's Spiritual growth and development has its beginning at the Second Baptist Church in Sandusky, Ohio under the leadership of the late Reverend Ashburn.  Since that time, he has had the privilege of serving under the leadership of some outstanding pastors and has maintained a good rapport with them.  His greatest experience was gained under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles Fair, Pastor of the United Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio where he served as Assistant Pastor.  Rev. Dr. Cage was rewarded for his faithfulness when he was installed as Pastor of Meridian Hill Baptist Church on March 11, 1990.  Since his installation, the church has thrived economically, socially, but most of all spiritually.

Under his direction, several new ministries have begun and old ministries have been fortified.  Rev. Dr. Cage is Christ-focused and ministry minded.  This was especially evident with the institution of Meridian Hill's Social Service ministry, which focuses on ministering to the whole person. Rev. Dr. Cage is also the founder and organizer of the Cathedral of Christ Baptist Church formally Word of Life Baptist Church.  Seeing the need to expand ministry beyond the urban areas of the District, God gave Rev. Dr. Cage the vision to institute an early morning worship service.  This vision came to fruition when Word of Life held its first service on September 27, 1998 in Upper Marlboro.  Since its inception, Rev. Dr. Cage has personally nurtured this ministry instituting various ministries such as Bible study and evangelism.  Now, with God's blessings, we were able to purchase our own church building, in the community of Chapel Oaks, Maryland.  To celebrate our new beginning, the entire month of September 2002 has been set aside for Inaugural Services.

Rev. Dr. Cage is married to the former Yvette M. Hughes and is the proud father of Yomeka, Calvin Jr., Kehli, Kailyn, Kasi, Caleb, Calyanna & Cheyenne.  Rev. Dr. Cage is a deeply devoted man of God who is committed to his family and to empowering God's people. He is also a dedicated leader and a God-chosen minister.  His goal is to lead as many people to Christ as possible, see them mature as Christians and become productive servants for the Lord.
